GAUGE:

16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) over Stockinette st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HAT
With A, cast on 48 (56, 64, 72) sts loosely. Divide sts onto 3 needles. Join, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of rnd.

WIG

Cut brim off baseball cap.

To form bangs, cut 15 pieces of Festive Fur each 12 in. [30.5 cm] long. Tie yarn together tightly in center with double strand of yarn and fold in half. Repeat 5 times with Glitterspun.

For hair, cut remaining Festive Fur into 1 yd. [1 m] pieces. Tie pieces together tightly in center with double strand of yarn.

For braid, cut 24 pieces of Glitterspun each 1 yd. [1 m] long. Tie pieces together tightly in center with a double strand of yarn and fold in half at tie. Divide yarn into 3 bunches of 16 strands each and braid. Fasten rubber band or ribbon tightly around end of braid to secure. Trim ends. Repeat for second braid.

To assemble wig, glue Glitterspun bangs along outside front of cap, about 2 in. [5 cm] above lower edge. Glue Festive Fur bangs at center front of cap. Glue a Glitterspun braid to each side of bangs. Glue Festive Fur hair centered on top of cap. Trim as desired.

broom stick

Holding both colors of Homespun together, wrap yarn around an 11" [28 cm] piece of cardboard 10 times. Cut a 24" [61 cm] piece of yarn and slip under top end of cardboard. Slip yarn off cardboard and tie yarn tightly around top. Cut loops open. Repeat this 4 more times – 5 bunches of yarn.

Wrap a piece of double-sided tape around branch about 2½ inches [6.5 cm] up from bottom. Remove protective cover from tape so that tape is exposed. Press tops of each bunch of yarn into tape, side by side. Use hands to smooth yarn down at top. Leaving a 12 inches [30.5 cm] tail of yarn, wrap Barley yarn tightly around yarn bunches about 1 inches [2.5 cm] down from top. Continue wrapping tightly for about 1 inches [2.5 cm]. Cut yarn, leaving another 12" [30.5 cm] tail. Knot tail ends together. Trim end of broom and you are ready to fly!

WITCH'S HAIR

Apply double-sided tape to 1 side of ribbon. Cut both BIG and Fun Fur into 18 inches [45.5 cm] lengths. Cut about 35 lengths of BIG and 125 lengths of Fun Fur. Remove protective covering from double-sided tape. Starting with a piece of BIG, carefully press 1 end to tape, matching top end of yarn to top edge of tape. Continue with BIG along length of tape, leaving about½ inches [13 mm] between each piece. Press 3 or 4 pieces of Fun Fur into each space that remains, matching end of yarn with edge of tape. Cut additional yarn as necessary.

Be sure that all yarn is hanging down from tape before continuing. Apply another piece of double-sided tape over top end of yarn, sandwiching yarn between the 2 layers of tape and ribbon on bottom layer. Begin removing protective covering from tape and, as you do, press tape firmly into inside of hat, just above brim. Continue until entire length is pressed in place. Ribbon should be showing for a neat finish to inside of hat. Ends of hair can be left as is, or randomly cut for that flyaway look!
